About the event
We continue to appreciate the partnership of Dickensfield Amity House and ECALA in this second year of funding the vision of Kistehitah kimeskanām (honour your journey/road).
Kistehitah kimeskanām is a project arising from the identification of unmarked graves at former residential school sites across Turtle Island. It comes from a vision of a path lined with baby moccasins leading to a beautiful healing lodge. A pipe ceremony was held for the start of this project with Kohkum Ruth de Ubiera in 2021.
The baby moccasins and moss bags created as part of this project will honour the children who were sent to the schools as well as the new spirits coming into the world today. The moccasins and moss bags will be gathered together in ceremony and then gifted to new babies arriving to the families they have chosen.
While participants will not take home the moccasins or moss bags they make, you will leave with skills for beading, sewing and making moccasins or moss bags, as well as instructions and patterns for making more.
